Gene E. May
August 19, 1929 to February 23, 2012
Gene E. May went to his heavenly home on February 23, 2012, following a brief illness.
He was born in Anderson on August 19, 1929, the son of Jesse and Greta (Frazier) May.
Gene graduated from Anderson High School, Anderson Apprentice School and earned an associate degree in computer Technology from Purdue University.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He retired after 45 years from Guide Division of General Motors where he worked in tool and die making and tool engineering.
Gene attended Cross Roads United Methodist Church; and was active in church all of his life, serving as an usher and on several boards.
He was a former member of Masonic Lodge # 681 F. & A. M. and he served as a Red Coat at Community Hospital.
He enjoyed taking his grandchildren on vacation trips. He also faithfully attended his grandson's sporting events.
Survivors include his wife, Joretta (Edgecomb) May, whom he married on June 14, 1951; daughter Denise Smith; three grandchildren: Abbie (Aaron) Bevelhimer, Joshua (Elyssa) Smith and Linsey Smith; a great granddaughter, Gracie Bevelhimer and several nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, two brothers and two nephews.
Visitation will be from Noon to 2:00 P.M. Monday, February 27 at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service, 229 S. Rangeline Road; the service will follow at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor John Hackney officiating. Entombment will be at East Maplewood Cemetery.
