Dorothy Jones Moore

Dorothy Jones Moore, 101, Anderson, died June 7, 2012, at Bethany Pointe Health Campus where she had resided since 2002.
She was born on September 29, 1910 in Scott County to Thomas Carey and Mattie (Gobin) Shepherd and moved to Madison County as a baby.
She attended Anderson High School. In 1928, she married Rex C. Jones and they had two children, Phyllis Jean Nowacek of San Antonio, TX; and Carl Rex Jones (wife Sue) of Anderson.
Rex preceded her in death in 1970.
She became a member of Altrusa Club in 1942 and in her 55 years of membership served as President and other offices of the club. She became a realtor in 1961 and was a Real Estate Partner in the Rogers and Jones partnership for 27 years. She was elected "Realtor of the Year" in 1976 and was active in the Anderson Board of Realtors. She served on the Anderson Community School Board of Trustees for 13 years and as secretary of the board for ten years. She was a member of the Anderson Chamber of Commerce for three years and the Chesterfield Christian Church and Daleville Order of the Eastern Star.
In 1974, she married Ward Moore and grew her family with three stepchildren, Steven W. Moore, Sr. (wife Shanda L.) of Springfield, MO; Evelyn Moore of Cincinnati, OH and Joy (husband Terry) Smith of Fishers. Ward preceded her in death in 2007. She is survived by all of her children; fifteen grandchildren including Jayne (husband Bob) Ewing, Mike (wife Nicole) Jones; Kim (husband Brad) Wheeless; David (wife Karen) Nowacek; Carol (husband Spencer) Rigney; James (wife Shelly) Nowacek; Terrance Smith; Preston Smith; Steve Moore Jr. (wife Kelly); Scott (wife Cynara) Moore; Mark (wife Shelly) Moore; Joshua Moore; Steve Lindsey and Stacia Verbosky; 25 great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Thomas C. and Mattie Shepherd and five siblings, Thomas Carey, Jr., Beulah Spall, Mildred Flanagan, Charles R. Shepherd and Bertha Brandon.
Services will be held on Thursday, June 14, 2012 at Chesterfield Christian Church. Visitation will be 12:00 P.M. and a memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. with Ned Clark officiating.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff for the care and devotion shown to her during her residency at Bethany Pointe Health Campus.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Chesterfield Christian Church or Heartland Hospice of Indianapolis.
