Richard L. "Dick" Donnelly, age 63 of Anderson died at Terre Haute Regional Hospital of a heart attack on Monday, July 9, 2012.
Dick was born December 12, 1948 in Anderson, IN to Richard and Dorthy May (Thayer) Donnelly. He graduated from Anderson High School in 1967 and earned a bachelor of arts degree in economics from Ball State University in 1971.
He was a hot air balloonist. He owned Hot Air Corps for 40 years and R. L. Donnelly and Assoc. Consulting for 15 years. He worked as Anderson City Planning Director for 20 years. He was a member of American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) and Balloon Federation of America; former Pres. of Montgolfier Society or Indiana; past Commissioner of Anderson Municipal Airport; and an active member of the Democratic Party.
He loved traveling and all things from Ireland.
Dick is survived by his wife of 21 years Cindy (McKinney) Donnelly of Anderson whom he married February 15, 1991; 2 sons Shanon Donnelly of Akron, OH; Casey (Krystal) Donnelly of New Mexico; granddaughter Rosa May Donnelly of Akron, OH; sister Marianne (George) King of Cassopolis, MI; step mother-in-law Iva Mae McKinney of Chesterfield; brother-in-law: Danny Smith of Hide-Away, TX; step brother-in-law Jeff (Jana) Chambers of Anderson; 2 step sisters-in-law: Pam (Jack) Branham of Chesterfield and Diana (Steve) Anderson of Anderson; niece Stephanie (Kevin) Bahus of Ft. Collins, CO; special friend Don Haynes of Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A graveside service will be on Friday, July 13, at 10:00 A.M. at East Maplewood Cemetery.
The visitation will be on Thursday, July 12 from 3:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Madison County Humane Society or American Heart Association.
