Obituary

Worcester – Dean C. Carey, 57, of Leicester, passed on Monday, August 27th in the Lutheran Home after a courageous battle with cancer, with his family by his side.

Dean was born in Worcester, MA son of the late Francis and Elizabeth (Whitemore) Carey. He leaves behind a son, Billy of California; two sisters, June Rice of Millbury and Sharon A. Rivelli and her husband Jim of Leicester; two brothers, Ronald Carey and his wife Alice of Leicester and Joseph Carey of Worcester; a grandson, Nicholas; a close friend Susan Parslow plus many nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by five brothers, Frank, Ernest, George, Paul and Gerald Carey and twos sisters, Phyllis Hedge and Arlene Brunner.

He was a sports fan of all Boston teams, enjoyed fishing and taking trips to the casino. He was a member of the Eagles in Maine and Worcester. Dean also spent a good amount of time at the Leicester Senior Center, where he made many friends, playing, pitch, cribbage and bingo...

The family would like to express a heartfelt thanks to all of the dedicated staff and residents at the Lutheran Healthcare Center for making Dean’s final days, loving and peaceful. They also would like to thank, Affinity Hospice who came to visit several times a week, they were like another branch of his family. The outpouring of love they had for him was a comfort to Dean and his family. A special caregiver, Kolby, was with him several times per week and was at his side when he passed. These dedicated organizations with their love and support helped Dean face his fate, with dignity.

A funeral service will be held for Dean on Tuesday, September 4th at 11 Am in the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home 12 Hammond St. Entombment will follow in Saint John’s Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Affinity Hospice 800 Main Street Holden, MA 01520.
