Obituary

Jamal F. Cruz, 38, of Wareham died August 26, 2012 in Providence.
Born in Boston, the son of Marcia A. (Silva) Cruz of Wareham and Donald S. Cruz of Westport, he lived in Brockton most of his life.
He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Jamal was a hard working dedicated family man who enjoyed his job helping at risk youths while working as program director at Life Resources of Brockton. He previously was employed as a case worker with the elderly at South Shore Elder Services.
He was a graduate of Cardinal Spellman High School in Brockton and Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. Jamal enjoyed spending time with his children and family, listening to music, swimming, traveling and watching the New England Patriots.
Survivors include his parents; his twin children, Sierra Cruz and Jalen Cruz, and their mother Karla Barham, all of Pittsburgh, PA; a brother, Christopher Cruz and his companion Brigitt Neary of Brockton; a half sister, Jenny Kristina Backer of London; his maternal grandmother, Sylvia Silva; his paternal grandfather, Pedro Cruz; his aunts and uncles, Marie Robinson and her fiancé Lawrence Tobey, Laverne Cruz, Claudia Cruz, Rose and Rookie Almeida and Dorothy Gomes; his cousins, Jessica Cruz, Cynthia Gomes, Elayne Gomes Battle and her husband David; and numerous other relatives and cousins.
He was the grandson of the late Jennie (Lima) Cruz, the great-grandson of the late Maria "Baba" Barros and Gregorio Silva, the nephew of the late Dolores "Cookie" Silva and Dje Dje Gomes.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Saturday, September 1st at 8 AM. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Friday, August 31st from 4-8 PM.
