Joe Steele, 88 went to meet Mae, his wife of 63 years on August 27, 2012.
Joe was born April 2, 1924, in Portsmith, Ohio. He was raised with his siblings at the St. Joseph Orphanage in Cold Springs, KY then in 1939 moved to Corbin, KY to live with his grandparents.
In 1942 he enlisted in the Army and proudly served in WW11 in the South Pacific. After the war he moved to Louisville to complete his education while living with the Dotts family.
He worked as a sales rep. in the plumbing industry and retired from Plumbers Supply. During this time he met Mary “Mae” Spoelker on a blind date. They were married on November 25, 1948.
Joe was an avid sports fan, loved to golf, and was part of the group that started Germantown Little League. He umpired in the league, and often bragged about never missing a call. He coached football at St. Raphael’s and was with the Men’s Club there for many years. He loved baseball and was an lifelong Cincinnati Redstockings Fan. Joe was a devoted UK Fan and a football season ticket holder for many years.
The following is a list of family, who were at one time “Kicked Out Of The Will”, and then reinstated after a small act of kindness.
Children, Mary Jo Carlton (Roger), Ron Steele (Gail) and Tom Steele (Linda); grandchildren, Melissa Steurer (Steve), Jennifer St. Clair, Brad Carlton, Brent Beeler, Whitney Walsh (Brian), Lesley Harris (Jeff), Amy Cottrell (Ben), Matthew Steele (Tara) and Sarah Walls (Desmond); great-grandchildren, Jared, Justin, Trenton, Cameron, Ashlee, Mason, Baylee, Sadie, Gavin, Breah, Aspen and Lake.
