Auburn: Mary (Sanderson) Smith, 85, of 669 Washington Street and formerly of North Attleboro, Leicester and Zephyrhills, FL died Wednesday, Aug. 22 in Ichabod Washburn Hospice Residence in Worcester after an illness.
She leaves her husband of 68 years Clarence L. Smith, a son David A. Smith and his wife Carole of Danielson, CT, two brothers Tony Sanderson of England and Bill Tweddell of Hull, England, three grandchildren Dawn M. Grassi and her husband Joseph of Cambridge, Stephen R. Smith and his wife Natalie of Paxton and Amy L. Smith of Danielson, CT, ten great-grandchildren Anthony & Stephanie Grassi, Jordan, Megan & Addison Smith, Abigail & Jon-Patrick Scott and Haley, Rachel & Russell Farnsworth and several nieces and nephews including Anthony Button and his wife Janet of England.
Mrs.. Smith was born in England, daughter of Winifred Sanderson. She worked as an auditor at the Jostens Co. in Attleboro before retiring in 1990. She previously worked at New England Diamond Corp. in Worcester. She was a licensed taxidermist. She was a former member of the Leicester Federated Church. She loved needlepoint, knitting and crochet. Along with her husband they enjoyed camping and traveling with their friends.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Sept. 1 at 10:00 AM in First Congregation Church of Leicester, 2 Washburn Square, Leicester. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Ichabod Washburn Hospice Residence, 1183 Main Street, Worcester, MA 01606.
