Barbara M. (St. Jean) Christensen age 83, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Salem on Wednesday, August 8, 2012. She was the wife of the late Frederick A. Christensen.
Born and raised in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Louise (Martel) St. Jean, and was the foster child of the late Augustine and Regina Jalbert. As a young woman she worked in the leather manufacturing industry in Salem, the Salem Laundry, CBS Hytron and Sylvania. She also worked as a waitress for Moustakis Ice Cream Parlor, and Lanes Drug Store both formerly of Salem. Barbara most recently managed the L & M Laundromat at the Hawthorne Plaza, and retired from Shaw’s as a demo hostess. She was a member of the Salem Council on Aging.
She is survived by 2 sons, Daniel A. Christensen of Fremont, CA, Scott J. Christensen of Danvers, a daughter, Valerie J. Palaski of Colorado, 2 foster sisters, Pauline Dupuis of Swampscott and Yvonne Morin of New Hampshire. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, nieces and nephews including Susan Leger of Peabody.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Funeral Mass on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at 9:00 A.M in Ste. Anne Church, 290 Jefferson Ave., Salem. A committal service of her ashes will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assoc., 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.
