Obituary

James “Jocko” L. Sutton, 87, of Derry, NH died Wednesday May 19, 2004 in the Elliot Hospital, Manchester, NH. Jocko was born in Derry on October 10, 1916 a son of the late James E. And Selfrige (Tetu) Sutton. He was a lifelong resident of Derry. Jocko served with the US Navy during WWII. He was Bantam Weight Diamond Belt Champion of Merrimack Valley in 1935. He was employed as an electronics engineer for Raytheon in Lowell, MA for 30 years retiring in 1986. He held memberships in the VFW Post 1617, American Legion Lester Chase Post 9, the Knights of Columbus Council 3023 and the Halcyon Club, all of Derry. He was also a member of the Hoodkroft Country Club, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and a communicant of St. Thomas Aquinas Church, all of Derry. He served as past commander for the VFW and the FOE. Jocko was an avid golfer, enjoyed gardening and was a devoted husband and father.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Doris (Ramsdell) Sutton of Nashua, one son, James E. Sutton and his wife Vicky of Andover, MA, two daughters, Kathleen Nugent and her husband Fred of Derry, Sally Sutton-Pinkham of Londonderry, seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, also many nieces and nephews.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday May 24th at 10:00am in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Ave., Derry. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Londonderry. Friends may call on Sunday from 2 - 6pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 10 Ferry St., Suite 427 B, Concord, NH 03301-5004 or to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, VT - NH Affiliate, P.O. Box 2496, Manchester, VT 05255.
