Alice L. (Britton) Caulfield, 86, of Westport, died at Brandon Woods Nursing Home in Dartmouth after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Charles S. Caulfield.
Daughter of the late Thomas A. and Alice (Birch) Britton, Mrs. Caulfield was born in New Bedford and grew up in the South end of the city. She attended New Bedford High School and later attended Kinyon-Campbell Business School in New Bedford. Mrs. Caulfield worked for the New Bedford Telephone Company until she had her children at which time she stayed home to raise them while also caring for her ailing parents. She had lived in Dartmouth prior to moving to Westport in 1977.
Mrs. Caulfield was an active member of the Westport Point United Methodist Church in Westport Point where she was on many committees over the years, including working in their soup kitchen. She was an avid organic gardener, animal lover, reader and a wonderful cook and baker. Mrs. Caulfield loved her family and many friends and truly enjoyed spending time out in nature, especially on long walks in the woods. She spent her life in the loving care of many family members, both human and animal, and will be greatly missed by all of them.
Survivors include 2 daughters: Sarah J. LaValley and her husband Jeffrey of Westport and Leslie J. Caulfield and her husband Richard Pacheco of Westport; 3 grandchildren: Julia, Peter and Benjamin LaValley and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to which family and friends are invited will be Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at Westport Point United Methodist Church in Westport Point, MA.
Interment service will be private.
