Obituary

FRANKLIN—Caryl G. (Gettler) Mann 89, of Franklin, died peacefully, Thursday August 16, 2012 at Riverbend of South Natick following a long illness. She was the wife of Donald J. Mann, President of the former Buckley & Mann Company in Norfolk for 34 years until his passing in 1984.
Born in Wood Haven, New York on December 29, 1922 a daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth A. (Power) Gettler, she was a Franklin resident for over 62 years.
She was raised and educated in Rockville Center, New York where she was a graduate of Southside High School class of 1940 and furthered her education at Mt. Holyoke College where she received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics in 1944. She worked as an accountant in Manhattan, New York until moving to Franklin where she was a homemaker and raised her family.
Caryl enjoyed traveling and playing bridge. She was a member of the Alden Club for over 50 years, the Red Hat Society, was a longtime volunteer at the Norwood Hospital gift shop, Stony Brook Wildlife Sanctuary and the Franklin Library. She also volunteered for the FISH program. She was also a longtime member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Franklin and it’s Wednesday morning woman’s prayer group.
Caryl is survived by her children; Judy Koontz and her husband Robert of Duxbury, Joanne Halpin and her husband Jim of Sherborn, Jeanne Nagy and her husband Jim of Sweet Grass, Montana and Jeryl Linne and her husband Mark of Franklin, and 10 grandchildren.
She was the sister of the late John, and Joseph Gettler.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service Saturday August 25th, at 11AM at the Anglican Church of the Redeemer 31 Hayward St. Franklin, MA 02038. Burial at Union Street Cemetery will be private.
