Obituary

It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of our cherished daughter and sister, Merrill Lynn Smith on August 16, 2012, after a long battle with Multiple Myeloma, for which shewas diagnosed in 2007.

Merrill was born October 28, 1950; beloved daughter of Hilda C.Smith of Boston, MA and Alfred R. Smith (deceased) of Newark, NJ, Merrill is the 5 of seven daughters, and is survived by her Mother, Hilda Smith, and sisters, Valerie Smith of Washington, DC, Alice Johnson of Somerville, MA, Denise Hendricks of Malden, MA, LaVerne Eckhardt of Jamaica Plain, MA , Leslye Smith of Dorchester, MA and Lisa Smith of Adelphi, MD; 3 generations of nieces and nephews; great niecesand nephews, and a host of cousins, aunts, uncles and brother-in-laws.Merrill, though petite in stature was a giant in her faith and family devotion. A devout Jehovah’s Witness, Merrill dedicated her life to Jehovah in December of 1969 and continued sharing a message of hope and salvation to many, and is remembered by her peers and those she touched, as attested to by the many who have come in support of her during her transition to rest in the love of her spiritual father, Jehovah.

In her professional life, Merrill continued to demonstrate her loving and caring nature for more than 40 years, as an employee of the Goddard House Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center first as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant at Goddard in Jamaica Plain, and then as a Receptionist and Patient Services Advocate at the Goddard Assisted Living facility, in Brookline up until April of 2012.
Merrill, affectionately referred to as “Hummingbird” was energetic and vibrant in life and will be remembered for her unwavering faith, immeasurable heart and beautiful spirit.

A Memorial Service for Merrill Smith will be held at:
6:00 PM on Monday, August 20th, 2012 At
