Obituary

Scott A Miner 46 of Hartford, CT, died unexpectedly in Nevada on July 30th. He was the son of the late Paul Miner of East Bridgewater and Beverly Miner of Georgia.

Scott was a veteran of the Persian Gulf War having served during Operation Desert Storm. He served in the US Navy Reserves from 1986-2001.

He was a graduate of Connecticut Culinary Institute. He continued his education at the University of New Haven where he earned his degree in General Dietetics. He later earned a MA Ed from Bienville University, and a PhD in Ed from the University of Berkeley.

Scott loved the culinary arts and spent many years working at various facilities in both Connecticut and Massachusetts before settling in at the former Connecticut Culinary Institute now Lincoln Culinary Institute where he spent twelve years working with hundreds of students and colleagues. Scott was a mentor to his students guiding them to regional and national awards. He also participated in many local, regional and national culinary competitions himself and almost always walked away with awards and medals. Scott was also proud to be a Certified Executive Chef and certified with the ACF as a test proctor. He enjoyed his time with CCI and LCI, and was well liked by both the students and staff. Scott had recently left LCI after accepting a job with American Cruise Lines as the Corporate Land Executive Chef.

Scott was always there to volunteer, help, and assist whenever there was a need. As a result of his passing, others will know life, for Scott was an organ donor. “Always giving to the end.”

In his free time he enjoyed experimenting with new culinary ideas, riding his Thunder Mountain Sport motorcycle and attending Pink Floyd concerts with his best friend Tom Barbieri. Most of all, he had a powerful enduring love for his boys giving them a wealth of experiences with their kayak, camping, travelling and giving them driving lessons (one of which involved a moose and a bear).

He is survived by his former wife Dawn-Marie (Mitchell) Miner of Whitman, his sons Alex and Parker Miner both of Whitman, his brother Brian Miner of Wisconsin and his sisters, Karen Cooper of Georgia and Betty Sutton of Milford. He is also survived by his longtime companion, Carline Thurston and her daughter Renee both of Connecticut, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to attend his memorial service to be held Tuesday August 21 at 11 AM in the First Baptist Church, Main Street, Hanson. Burial will follow in the Colebrook Cemetery, Whitman. Visiting hours will be held Monday August 20 from 5-8 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Special Olympics of MA / Yawkee Sports Training Center, 512 Forest Street, Marlborough, MA 01452 in honor of his past participation in the Dream Ride.
