Ken Moran, 81, of Wellesley, passed away on August 15, 2012. He was born on March 18, 1931 in Framingham; son of the late John J. and Teresa M. (Corman) Moran. Ken was raised in Wayland and attended Wayland High School, where he played varsity baseball, and graduated from in 1948. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1949 and was stationed in Germany. Ken returned home and began work in the Civil Engineering Department in Wellesley, retiring in 1992, after 36 years of service.
Ken was also a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Wellesley. Ken enjoyed playing the slots at Foxwoods Casino, fishing, gardening, and cheering on the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. Ken will be remembered for his great sense of humor, gift of gab, and his vivid storytelling. Laughter, fun, and smiles were always shared by all when Ken was present!
In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by his loving wife, Patricia Louise Ortolani, in 2006 after 49 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Beverly (Moran) O’Neil Matthews in 2011.
Survivors include brother, Robert J. Moran of Ashland; brother-in-law, Gerald Matthews of Ohio; nieces, Wendy Moran of Weymouth, Debra (Ken) Bagshaw of Framingham, Pamela (Gary) Rowden of Douglas, and Beverly O’Neil (Ric) Haury of Ohio; nephew, John (Judy) O’Neil of Ohio; several great nieces and nephews; and many dear friends from the area.
Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St. (Rt. 16), Wellesley, Monday at 9 AM. Funeral Mass in St. Paul Church, Wellesley at 10 AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours Sunday 4-8. Interment St. Mary Cemetery, Needham.
