Josh Booker, age 95, died Monday, August 13, 2012 at his home in Water Valley, MS. He was born November 19, 1916 in Coffeeville, MS to the late Jefferson Booker and Janie Martin Moss. Josh served in the United States Army during WWII at the Battle of Normandy in Northern France and earned the EAME Theater Ribbon with 2 bronze stars, the Good Conduct Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. After completing his military service Josh was employed with General Motors Corporation where he retired as a Line Foreman. Josh was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Water Valley and he loved traveling throughout the United States. He loved his church and until his health failed Josh was an active, devoted and faithful member of Everdale Church in Water Valley where he served as a deacon.
Visitation will be held Saturday, August 18, 2012 from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 PM at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley, MS. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 2:00 PM in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks with Pastor Phillip Brackett, Pastor Mitchell Steen, Minister Steve Allen and Minister Curtis Matthews officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Ridge Cemetery in Water Valley, MS with Jerry Marshall, Donell Cooper, Johnny Cooper, Christopher Paten, GeJuan Harris and Larry Smith serving as pallbearers.
Josh is survived by his wife, Geraldine Booker of Water Valley, MS; two daughters, Bernitha Malone of Memphis, TN and Jamie Cooper of Water Valley, MS; one son, Jerry Marshall (Arnetra) of Water Valley, MS; three sisters-in-law, Jimmie Lee Booker of Cleveland, OH, Evelyn Turner (Robert) and Mary Cooper all of Water Valley, MS; two brothers-in-law, James Cooper and J. C. Cooper both of Coffeeville, MS; his mother-in-law, Willie B. Cooper of Water Valley, MS; two nieces, Shirley Booker and Mary Spencer; three nephews, Leshone Booker, Lashone Booker and Laselle Booker; four step-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
