Elder Otis E. McGee, 86, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Saturday, August 11, 2012, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M., Tuesday, August 14, at the Ocilla Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Emerson Proctor, Elder W.H. Durrence, Elder Tommy McGee, and Elder Paul Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in the Frank Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Monday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Elder McGee was born April 1, 1926 in Irwinville, Georgia to the late Jonathan and Sallie Burch McGee. He was educated in Mystic and was a farmer. He was formerly employed with the Inland Container Company, Weaver Milling Company, Tampa Nugget Wholesale Company, and the Georgia Cigar & Tobacco Company. He was also a former life insurance agent for Liberty National, Family Fund Life, and United Family Life, having worked for the agency office at Paulk Funeral Home. Elder McGee was a supply minister at Sturgeon Creek. He began full-time ministry on February 20, 1968 at Hickory Springs Primitive Baptist Church. He went on to serve Primitive Baptist churches at: Fitzgerald, Cedar Creek, River Chapel, Mount Nebo, Ephesus, and retired while serving Ocilla Primitive Baptist Church.
Elder McGee is survived by his wife of 69 years: Peggy Kitchens McGee of Ocilla; children and their spouses: Elder Tommy & Shirley McGee of Collins, Sandra & Raymond Faircloth of Ocilla, Dr. David & Karen McGee of Tifton, and Michael & Brenda McGee of Vienna; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Elder McGee was preceded in death by siblings: W.E. “Doc” McGee, Buster McGee, Mary Ivey, George McGee, J.B. McGee, and Bonnie Kitchens.
