Obituary

BEVERLY: James M. “Jimmy” Carlson, 59, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following a brief illness. He was the husband of Darlene Smith with whom he recently celebrated twenty years of marriage with. He was also the loving and devoted father of Taylor Mae Carlson who was his pride and joy.
Born in Marblehead on November 9, 1952, he was the son of the late Ernest A. and Jacqueline L. (Thompson) Carlson. He was raised in Wenham and was a graduate of Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School. Jim worked for Newspapers Holdings, Inc., owners of the Salem News, formerly Essex County Newspapers, for over forty years. He first began working in the mailroom and continued to work his way up in the company and most recently was an IT Technician.
Jim had a knack and enjoyed tinkering with computers, loved his vegetable garden, reading and watching the Boston Red Sox. In his earlier years Jim was an avid sailor and especially loved the time he spent at Cuttyhunk Island.
In addition to his wife and daughter, he is survived by his brother, Christopher Carlson of West Ossipee, NH; five sisters, Paula Carlson of Beverly, Ann and her husband, Jeffrey Guy of Salem, Kathleen Carlson of Salem, Patricia and her husband, Ronald Fish of White House, TN and Nancy Carlson and her husband, Joseph Ferreira of Silver Lake, NH; a brother-in-law, John Smith and his long time companion, Elizabeth O’Maley of Peabody; sisters-in-law, Donna and her husband, Robert Wetmore of Northport, FL and Tammie Smith of Salem. Jim is also survived by several nieces and nephews, most notably Jason Carlson of North Andover.
A funeral service for Jim will be held on Monday in the Grondin Funeral Home, 376 Cabot Street, Beverly at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 2 – 5 p.m. Jim’s relatives, friends and co-workers are cordially invited to attend. Jim’s family would like you to be comfortable and come in casual summer attire. Expressions of sympathy may be made in Jim’s memory to the Kaplan Family Hospice House, c/o Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923. Interment will be held in the Main Street Cemetery, Wenham.
