Catherine (Cushman) Broadbent, 86, a 27-year resident of Winchester, passed away August 5, 2012. She was the beloved wife of 57 years of George S. Broadbent. Born in Taunton, she was the daughter of the late Charles T. and Catherine K. (Willard) Cushman. After graduating high school, Catherine attended UMASS Amherst. While working at the front desk at the Taunton Inn, she met the love of her life, George Broadbent, who was the night auditor there. A passionate knitter, Mrs. Broadbent was the former owner of “The Knit Shop” on Thompson St. in Winchester for many years, where she was always available to help her customers finish any and all projects. In her spare time, she loved to knit for her family - particularly sweaters, hats and mittens for the grandchildren and socks for her husband. Mrs. Broadbent was also an animal lover, and thoroughly enjoyed her dog Walter and two cats, Taylor and Nova. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children: Cynthia Ballo of Lexington, David Broadbent of Arlington, VA, Carol Stevenson of Winchester and Drew Broadbent and his wife Corinna Galano of Attleboro. She was also the devoted grandmother of Phillip and Julie Ballo, Brooke Stevenson, and Matt Galano. Catherine was pre-deceased by a sister, Charlotte Hartwell. Her Funeral Service will be held on Fri., Aug. 10 at 9AM in the Parish of the Epiphany, 70 Church St. Winchester. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment is private.
