STERN, Demetria Olga (Mavreles) of Needham lived with extraordinary determination despite chronic health issues, physical pain, and personal loss. On August 4th, she passed away with her husband and children surrounding her with love. Friends and family will never forget her kind heart and incredible sense of humor. Demetria will be remembered tending to her gardens, singing along to Greek music, and making each Christmas and birthday magical.
Demetria leaves behind her husband of 45 years, Burton Stern (Needham), and daughters Stephanie Stern (Evanston, IL) and Cynthia Stern (Waltham). Demetria was also grandmother (yiayia) to Gabriel and Clara Melson (Evanston, IL). Her beautiful grandchildren brought her a lot of happiness and enjoyment. Demetria rests in peace with her beloved son, Mark Stern (Needham). Her family is grateful for her countless sacrifices, advocacy, and love.
In death, Demetria joins parents - Theodore and Mary Mavreles, and siblings - Anastasia Lagadinos, John Mavrelion and Leo Mavreles. She leaves behind siblings Eugenia Staramontzos, Helen Marios and George Mavreles.
Demetria will be buried at a private ceremony in Needham’s St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be sent to the Humane Society of the United States, The HSUS, Dept.
