Calvin W. Sturge, 77, of Halifax formerly of Whitman, died Thursday August 2nd, after a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of the late Geraldine H.(Laing) Sturge.
Calvin was born in Cambridge, brought up in Reading, son of the late Roland J. and Mary (Wilcox) Sturge. He was a graduate of Reading High School.
He served his country in the United States Marines from 1953-1956.
Calvin first lived in Quincy after the Marines and then resided in Whitman for 20 years. He has been a resident of Halifax for the past 26 years.
He was an elder at the Church of Latter Day Saints in Hingham. Calvin worked as a machinist for over 40 years at Pneumatic Scale in Quincy.
Calvin’s family was very important to him; taking care of his wife, Geraldine when she was ill and he was very proud of his family. He was well known for his love of potato chips.
He is survived by his sons; Mark Sturge and his wife Jeannine, Wayne Sturge and his companion Erin Goodwin and Eric Sturge and his wife Debbie, all of Halifax, his grandchildren; Stephanie, Aimee, Michael, Ryan, Amanda, Matt, Corinne, Jared, Brian and Alex. He was also the brother of the late Roland Sturge.
His services will be held on Monday August 6th at 6:00PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St (RT 58 at the Rotary) Whitman. Visitation will be prior to the service from 4:00-6:00. Burial will be at a later date. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 5 Manley St., West Bridgewater, MA 02379
