Charles Joseph Brand, of Overlook Avenue, Mystic, passed away on August 2, 2012 at Lawrence & memorial Hospital after a long and courageous struggle with heart disease.
Charlie was born on November 30, 1937 in Newark, New Jersey the son of the late Charles A. and Mary (Nosti) Brand. He became a resident of Mystic in 1938 when the family relocated to Connecticut.
He began a business as a self employed building contractor in 1965. His son, Peter later joined him in the family owned business. C. J. Brand and Son has been successful for 47 years. He was a communicant of St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church in Groton.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Jean (Bogue) Brand whom he married on September 7, 1957 at St. Patrick, Church, Mystic.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Peter Brand & wife Victoria of Stonington; twin daughters, Lisa Sargent & husband Edward of East Lyme and Lori Badamo & husband Edward of Middletown; 8 grandchildren, Megan Sargent, Brittany Badamo, Rebecca Brand, Andrew Badamo, Emily Sargent, Sarah Sargent, Nicole Badamo, and Kevin Sargent; and several nieces and nephews. Charlie was predeceased by two grandsons, Tyler and Connor Sargent and a sister, Maryann Smith. Charlie took great pride in his family. When his children and grandchildren came along they were his source of pride and joy.
His family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Monday from 5-7pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church, 69 Groton Long Point Road, Groton on Tuesday at 11am. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
