Sallie A. Polk, age 104, died Monday, July 30, 2012 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, MS. She was born May 4, 1908 in Oakland, MS to the late Bellamy and Susie White Winters. Sallie was a homemaker and loved taking care of her family and friends, baking cakes and working in her flower and vegetable gardens. She was a member of the Eastern Star Lodge of Water Valley, MS. She loved the Lord and was a devoted and faithful member of Bayson Chapel Church in Water Valley, MS where she served on the Mother Board, was Sunday School Treasurer, the head of the youth department for many years and she was the founder of the Lord Acres Harvest Program.
Visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 3, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley, MS. Funeral services will be at 11 AM Saturday, August 4, 2012 at Bayson Chapel Church in Water Valley with Rev. Amos Sims officiating. Visitation will be from 10 until service time. Burial will be in the Bayson Chapel Church Cemetery with Aaron Carpenter, Jermaine Greenleaf, Carl Phillips, Anthony Matthews, Jerome Polk, Barry Anderson, Reggie Polk and Deshun Polk serving as pallbearers. Kenneth Polk, Jesse Fleming, Willie Polk, Raymond Phillips, Ronald Anderson and Carl Polk will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mother Polk is survived by six daughters, Ora Phillips (Raymond) of Water Valley, MS, Elnora Kyles of Broadview, IL, Onia Anderson (Ronald) of Chicago, IL, Inez Turner of Water Valley, MS, Juanita Fleming (Jesse) of Sallis, MS, and Earnestine Matthews of Coffeeville, MS; two sons, Carl Polk (Ora) of Coffeeville, MS and Willie E. Polk (Sandra) of Oakland, MS; thirty eight grandchildren, sixty five great grandchildren and thirty four great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to her parents, Mother Polk was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Willie Winfield Polk; two sons, James Winfield Polk and Lawrence Jackson Polk and three grandchildren.
