Worcester – Robert “Pip” Shannon, 96, of Worcester, died peacefully on Monday, July 30th in his home while surrounded by his family.
Robert was married to Helen A. (Glynn) Shannon who died in 1993. He is survived by a daughter, Ann M. Morgera of Worcester; 2 grandchildren, Michael P. Morgera and his wife Lisa of Shrewsbury and Gina M. Morgera of Worcester; 4 beloved great grandchildren, Shannon G., Andrew R., Ryan M. and Thomas J. Morgera and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by 2 brothers William and Gordon “Skip” Shannon and his sister, Vera Cumming.
Mr. Shannon was born in Isle of the Wight, England son of the late William and Ida (Chandler) Shannon and moved to the United States at the age of 3. Pip went to South High School and was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed watching the Boston and local sports teams especially the Boston Red Sox. He played both baseball and football at Maloney’s Field in South Worcester for many years. Robert proudly served in the United States Army during World War II.
With his passing, the world has lost a gentleman, a loving family man, and a role model. He was a “Father” to three generations and will live in our hearts forever. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Mark Shrank, Holly and Sr. Ann Marshall from the VNA and Sonja from Arcadia Health Care.
He worked as a receiver for the Norton Company for 38 years and was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Church.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, August 2nd from the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home 12 Hammond St. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in Our Lady of the Angels Church 1222 Main Street. Burial will follow in Saint John’s Cemetery. Calling hours are on Wednesday, August 1st from 5 to 7 PM in the funeral home.
