Obituary

Kathleen H. Schnare, 97, of Worcester, died Sunday, July 29, 2012 in Christopher House in Worcester.

Kay was born on February 12, 1915 in Northbridge, MA. Her parents were Frank and Helen (Dean) Hopkins. She graduated from Northbridge High in 1933 and attended classes at Worcester Normal School. Before graduating, she left school to pursue her love of writing. Although none of her works were published, she left her family with many wonderful stories of her life in the following years. During World War II, she moved to Newport, Rhode Island to work for Western Union. It was there that she met Raymond Schnare who was stationed at Fort Adams. They were married in June 1944 in Newport.
Later they moved to Whitinsville and then to Worcester. In her earlier years, Kay was an active member of Adams Square Congregational Church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. She liked attending neighborhood Bible studies and felt God was truly a part of her life.

During their 58 years of marriage, Ray and Kay did some traveling in and out of the United States but their favorite place to vacation was Cape Cod. Many happy years were spent camping in Nickerson State Park and later in the home they built in Eastham, MA. Whenever they "went on vacation", family and friends were always welcome. When Ray died in 2003, Kay made her home with her granddaughter Renee Little and her family and this remained a gathering place for one and all. Throughout her life, she always had a smile and a kind word for anyone and everyone. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be truly missed.

Kay leaves her three sons, David F. Schnare ( wife Paula ) of Spencer; Douglas R. Schnare (wife Susannah ) of Worthington, John C. Schnare ( wife Shirley ) of Holden; a daughter, Sharon Schnare of Groton, CT; 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by 3 sisters, Virginia Wood, Marcella Henderson, and Lois Gellatly and a granddaughter, Sandra.

Funeral services will be private. If you wish, contributions in her name can be made to the Wachusett Food Pantry, P.O. Box 62, Jefferson, MA 01522-0062.
