WEBSTER – Douglas L. Stockdale, age 84, of 9 Hartley St., died Wednesday, May 12, in Hubbard Regional Hospital.
He leaves his wife of 58 years, Doris (Gadbois) Stockdale; a brother, Donald F. Stockdale of Webster; a sister, Nancy Yuhas of Groton, CT; 2 grandchildren, Paul D. Sahlin of Atlanta, GA, and Sandra L. Kuszewski of Dudley; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Gary A. Stockdale, who died in 1980, a daughter, Judith A. Sahlin, who died in March of this year; 2 brothers, Leslie N. Stockdale, who died in 2002, and Philip G. Stockdale, who died in 1993, and a sister, Gwendolyn M. Williams, who died in 1995.
He was born in England, son of Lawrence A. and Margaret (Ridgewell) Stockdale. He was a graduate of Bartlett High School and Quinsigamond Community College, Worcester. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Clark University and Master of Science Degree in Educational Administration from Worcester State College.
Mr. Stockdale was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater. He was employed as an accountant at the former Chaffee Brothers Lumber, Oxford, and then worked at the former Servomation in Auburn, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the United Church of Christ, Federated, where he was a treasurer and usher for many years. He was a member and finance officer of the American Legion Post 58, Oxford, for 34 years and a member of the Worcester City Deputy Sheriff’s Association and the AARP.
The funeral service, with full military honors, will be held Saturday, May 15, at 11:00 AM in the United Church of Christ, Federated, 4 Church St. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Friday, May 14, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM in the Scanlon Funeral Service, East Main St. Memorial contributions may be made to United Church of Christ, Federated, 4 Church St., Webster, MA 01570
