Obituary

John A. "The Bull" Masotta, age 98 and a lifelong resident of Woburn passed away peacefully at his home on July 27th, following a short period of declining health. He was the beloved husband of the late Lucy F. (Cirone). Born in Woburn on June 21, 1914 he was one of ten children of the late Catino and Phillipa (Madilena) Masotta.

John was a retired Boiler Room Engineer and worked for forty years at the Monsanto Chemical Co. in Everett where he also served for many years as a Union Officer. John was a very talented and true Handy Man and could build or repair just about anything. He was very proud of the fact that he built his own home and has lived there for the past sixty-one years. He enjoyed helping his children at their own homes with any carpentry or plumbing work that needed to be done.

John was a real people person, always greeting you with a smile. He was so proud of his large family and especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren and their many accomplishments. He cherished his family and was always looking forward to the next family get together. John was also a longtime member of the South End Italian Club where he made many wonderful friendships and was very active for many years. In his leisure time he enjoyed bowling and gardening, however his greatest joy was his family.

John is survived by his children, Phyllis Santullo, Joan Devereaux and her husband William, all of Burlington, John Masotta and his wife Rita, Diane Quigley and her husband Tom, Linda Scott and her husband Greg, all of Woburn. He is also survived by 19 loving grandchildren and 41 loving great grandchildren. He was the brother of Grace Castronova, Susanne Giglio and her husband Anthony, Andrew Masotta and his wife Mary, Angelo Masotta and his wife Eleanor, all of Woburn, the late Stella Pesaturo, Mary Ferullo, Salvatore, Joseph and Philip Masotta.

Funeral services will be held from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., WOBURN, Wednesday, August 1st, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Charles Borromeo Church, 280 Main St., Woburn, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home will be held on Tuesday from 4 thru 8 p.m. Services will conclude with burial at Calvary Cemetery, Woburn.
