Obituary


CHICOPEE – Irene M. (Morrissette) Morris Rollis, 84, of Monastery Heights in West Springfield and a former longtime resident of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, July 26, 2012. She passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born at home in Chicopee on February 13, 1928, a beloved daughter of the late Athanase and Emma (Boutin) Morrissette. She was raised in Chicopee and with the exception of 11 years that she lived in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, was nearly a lifelong resident of Chicopee. She was last employed at the F. W. Sickles Company in Chicopee and while living in Pennsylvania was a proud employee of H. J. Heinz. She was a communicant of Saint Anthony of Padua Church in Chicopee. Active in Chicopee, Irene was a longtime volunteer at the Aldenville Senior Center and was a member of the Chicopee Golden Age Club. During her leisure time, she enjoyed crafts, cake decorating, gardening and was a frequent visitor at many tag sales. She was a loving woman who adored her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She was predeceased by her beloved husbands, Jesse Morris, Jr., who was Called Home on June 20, 1989 and Anthony J. “Tony” Rollis, who was Called Home on March 12, 2005. She leaves: her loving children, Marie E. Cohen and her husband, Leonard, of Holyoke, Ronald J. Morris and his wife, Katherine, and Alan W. Morris and his wife, Becky, all of Easthampton; her dear step-son, Francis J. Rollis of Oregon; her three cherished grandchildren, Victoria Torres and her husband, Rey, Cody Morris and Moriah Morris; her cherished great-granddaughter, Brooke Langlais; her dear brother, Ronald Morrissette and his wife, Remah, of Chicopee; her dear sisters, Marie Rose Shaeffer of Chicopee and Therese Trask and her husband, Edward, of South Hadley; her dear sister-in-law, Gloria Morrissette of Chicopee; and her many dear nephews and nieces. She will be dearly missed by her loving cat and constant companion, Damien. Besides her parents and husbands, she was predeceased by her dear brothers and sister, Edward and Marcelin Morrissette and Theodoline LeBlanc. Her funeral will be held on Monday morning, July 30, 2012, beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 (funeral home will open at 8 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her Committal Service will follow the Mass at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, July 29, 2012, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to the charity of the donor’s choice.
