Cornelius W. Slack, 93, of 338 Thompson Rd., passed away Monday, July 23,2012.
He was born May 14, 1919, in Boston, as the second of five children of parents Tracy and Nellie (Swanburg) Slack, and lived in Webster for over 40 years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Virginia (Pushee) Slack.
He is survived by his sons; Jeremy Slack of Weymouth, and Peter Slack and his wife Carol, and his grandchildren; Timothy and Kristen Slack, all of Mechanicsville, PA.
He and Virginia were members of the First Congregational Church of Dudley and previously members of the United Church of Christ, Federated in Webster and the Elm Street Congregational Church in Southbridge, and had been active in various interfaith choirs in this area.
An Army veteran of WWII, he worked as a manufacturing engineer for various companies, including 25 years at the American Optical Co. in Southbridge where he became supervisor of process development engineering before retiring in 1982. His outside interests included woodworking, Model A Ford restoration, sailing on Webster Lake and donating his handyman talents to both his church, the Dudley Grange and Black Tavern Society. He and Virginia also volunteered their time to work as hosts and helpers at the historic Roseland Cottage in Woodstock, Ct.
A Memorial Service for Cornelius will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at 10 AM in the Robert J. Miller Funeral Home and Lake Chapel, 366 School St. There will be a calling hour from 9 AM to 10 AM prior to the service.
Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
