Henry Burdette, 85, of Ty Ty died Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 27, 2012, at Salem Baptist Church. Rev. Andy Ring, Rev. Paul Peace and Dr. Danny Ray will officiate with burial to follow in Salem Memorial Gardens. Eric Mullis, Keith Beasley, Keith Sutton, Wayne Burdette, Chris Burdette and Rusty Hogan will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be present and former deacons of Salem Baptist Church. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 26, 2012, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mr. Burdette will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service at Salem Baptist Church.
Mr. Burdette was born on June 13, 1927 in Turner County and was the son of Collie Anderson Burdette and Maybelle Beard Burdette, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Emogene Wilson Burdette; three brothers, Elmer Burdette, Oren Burdette and Grady Burdette; and one sister, Leona Ireland. He was a retired farmer and a member of Salem Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and Sunday school teacher for the children’s class. He also served in the United States Army in Germany during World War II.
Mr. Burdette is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Ricky and Jan Burdette and Craig Burdette, all of Ty Ty; one brother and sister-in-law, C.A. Jr. and Hortense Burdette of Sycamore; four sisters and one brother-in-law, Cleo and Eldridge Beasley, Emma Lou Burdette and Velma Burdette, all of Ty Ty and Esther Engebretsen of California; one grandson and his wife, Eric and Angel Mullis of Ty Ty; and two great-grandchildren, Kelsey Mullis and E. J. Mullis.
