RAYMOND C. "BUD" CAMPBELL, Retired Hingham Police Chief, died on Tuesday, July 24th at the age of 88. Bud was born in Hingham and was a lifelong resident of the town. After graduating from Hingham High School, he joined the U.S. Army in 1943 and served for 3 years in the 4th Army under General George Patton in Europe. He was awarded four Battle Stars for service in Normandy, Northern France, the Ardennes and the Rhineland. After his distinguished military service he studied at Suffolk Law School and joined the Hingham Police Dept. in 1949. He attained the rank of sergeant in 1953, detective sergeant in 1957, captain in 1961 and became chief in 1963, retiring in 1982. After his retirement, he became a Security Advisor Training Officer. Bud was a lifelong member of the D.A.V., the V.F.W. and the American Legion.
He leaves his beloved wife of 68 years, Helen (Hart) Campbell; his son, Curtis Campbell and his wife Karla; and grandchildren, Linnea and Casey all of Hingham. He was predeceased by his brothers Eliot Campbell, Jr. and Albert E. "Skippy" Campbell.
