Mary C. Dunn, 81, of Brockton died on July 24th at home surrounded by family and friends. Born & raised in Philadelphia, Mary was the daughter of the late Catherine & James Lavin of Ireland & sister of Thomas F Lavin late of Florida. A graduate of West Catholic Girls High School, she worked at the Signal Corps and Commercial Union Insurance Co, Quincy, in addition to raising a large family. Wife of the late Richard W. Dunn, Mary is survived by her 6 children Marianne Kaminski of New Hope, PA., Maureen Shields & husband John of Milton, Monica Harrell & husband Kevin of Lake Elsinore, CA., Maribeth Dunn of Quincy, and Mark Dunn & Matthew Dunn of Boston, 8 grandchildren Jennifer Kaminski, Kristyn Kaminski, Chaste Harrell, Deavor Harrell, Grady Harrell, Niles Harrell, John Shields and Meghan Shields, and one great-grandson Kai White.
A talented musician, Mary played oboe and piano. She also enjoyed knitting and participated in the annual Knit-a-thon for Pine Street Inn, “Ending Homelessness A Stitch At A Time.” She loved to bake, and was known for her cookie generosity throughout the city. Other favorite activities included Sunday morning brunch every week with family and watching the Patriots.
A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Church 439 West St Brockton, at 10am on Thursday July 26, 2012, followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery, 99 N. Cary St. Brockton.
