Obituary

CHICOPEE – John A. Dion, 59, of the Willimansett section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, July 21, 2012. He passed into Eternal Life at Willimansett Center East in Chicopee surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family and his wonderful caregivers. He was born in Holyoke on October 22, 1952, a beloved son of the late Louis E. Dion, who was Called Home on March 15, 2001, and Rita I. (Allen) Dion Williamson, who was Called Home on January 1, 2006. He was raised in the Willimansett section of the city where he lived for most of his life except for two years in Columbus, Mississippi. He was employed for 32 years as a material handler, fork lift operator and elevator operator at the former National Blank Book Company in Holyoke which later became Avery Dennison. John was a member of the Amvets Post 12 in Chicopee where he loved to listen to country music with his many friends. He enjoyed pool, going to country music concerts and loved to recycle everything. As a young child, he saved newspapers and during his adult years, collected bottles and cans. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by: his step-father, Thomas W. Williamson, who was Called Home on November 27, 1985; and his sister and brother, Jacqueline Dion and Ronald J. Dion. He leaves his seven loving sisters and brothers, Dorothy C. Llorens and her companion, Don, of Downey, CA, Alan L. Dion, Sr. and Richard L. Dion and his wife, Joan, all of Easthampton, Robert E. Dion and his wife, Pamela, of Colorado Springs, CO, Loyce A. Fitzpatrick and her husband, Richard, of Springfield, Patricia A. Dion of Chicopee, and Karen J. Stockman of Holyoke; and his many dear uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, grand nephews, grand nieces and friends. He will be sadly missed by his loving companions, his dog, Chewy, who predeceased him and his pampered cat, Fluffy, who brought much joy to him during his long illness. His relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, July 26, 2012 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. which will be followed by a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial will be private at the convenience of his family at Saint Patrick Cemetery on Fuller Road in Chicopee Falls. Because of his love of animals, his family has requested that memorial donations be made in his memory to the Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society, PO Box 319, South Deerfield, MA 01373.
