Ernest S. Christian, 98, of Windham, NH, formerly of Harwich, MA, died Saturday July 21, 2012 at Parkland Medical Center of Derry. He was born September 23, 1913 in Boston, MA, and was a son of the late Andrew F. and Grace E. (Gaynor) Christian. He was raised and educated in the Boston area. Mr. Christian was employed in Banking for most of his working life, and retired as Vice President/Treasurer of the Somerville Savings Bank after 30 years in 1971. He and his wife moved to Harwich in 1971, where he lived until moving to NH in 2010 to be close to family.Mr. Christian loved his family, and will be forever remembered as an avid New York Yankees fan.
Mr. Christian was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Catherine M. (Barrett) Christian in 2010.
Members of the family include one daughter and her husband, Judith and Carl Conley of Windham, NH, two sons and their wives, Paul S. and Bonnie Christian of Ormond Beach, FL., and John E. and Hazel Christian of Newton, NH, a stepson and his wife, Charles and Barbara Harkins of Woburn, MA, 10 grandchildren, Robert Sullivan, Sandra Norton, Diane Sullivan, Melissa Moulton, Kevin Christian, Michelle Lagimonier, John P. Christian, Kathleen Mooney, Barry Harkins and Julie Deluca, 25 great grandchildren and two great- great grandchildren.
There are no calling hours. A graveside service was held Thursday July 26,2012 at 12:30pm in Island Pond Cemetery of Harwich, MA. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry, NH is assisting the family.
