Obituary

Worcester—Dorothy C. “Pete” Peters, 82, died on Monday, May 10, 2004, at the Masonic Home in Charlton. She leaves a sister, Catherine Monfreda, of Oxford; 18 nephews & nieces; and 24 grandnephews & grandnieces. She was predeceased by 2 brothers, Alec and Theodore Peters, and her life-long companion, Margaret “Peggy” Reilly.

She was born in Worcester, daughter of William and Christine (Jacobsen) Peters. She graduated from the former David Hale Fanning Trade School. She was a WWII Army Veteran, serving in the 1st Allied Airborne Division in Europe and was the first woman of the Women’s Army Corp (WAC) to enter Hitler’s Rose Garden immediately after the war. She worked in the printing department of the New England Envelope and U.S. Envelope companies. She was a life-time member of the All Women’s American Legion Post 419. She played for the Worcester Women’s Softball League and was a founder of the Lassie Softball League in the 1950’s. She was an active member of the Auburn Relic’s Motorcycle Club.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 14, at 11:00 a.m.at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street. Burial will be in HopeCemetery. Calling Hours will be held Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m.at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701or to the American Red Cross, 61 Harvard St., Worcester, MA01609.
