Jeane M. Sottile, of Peabody formerly of Wilmington and Chelmsford passed away peacefully on July 19th, following a lengthy illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph J. Sottile and together they shared 57 years of marriage prior to his passing in May of this year. Born in Boston she was the daughter of the late Joseph L. and Helen (Martin) Cunningham.
Jeane was raised and educated in Wilmington and was a member of the Wilmington High School class of 1945. Jeane met her husband Joe when she tried to fix him up with her best friend. The couple soon married and started a family raising their children in Wilmington and Chelmsford. The family enjoyed traveling and taking many memorable cruises and vacations together. For many years Jeane volunteered with many different Veteran causes. She was a Past President of the Women's Club of Wilmington and also served on the state level as a past Director for the 8th District. Throughout her life Jeane enjoyed sewing, quilting and dancing. She loved being in or around the water and was an avid swimmer. Her greatest joy however came from her time spent with her family and especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Marie Zorn and her husband Christopher of Medfield, Martin Sottile Hassman and his husband George Hassman MD of La Canada Flintridge, CA. She was the loving grandmother of Eric and Keith Zorn, Ashley and Rubin Hassman. She is also survived by her brother Leonard Cunningham of Hudson, MA. In addition to her late husband and parents, she is predeceased by her brothers Joseph and Thomas Cunningham.
Funeral services will be held from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 374 Main St., Wilmington, Tuesday, July 24th, at 11 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Dorothy Church, Main St. Wilmington, at 12 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Dello Russo Funeral Home will be held on Monday from 4 thru 7 p.m. Services will conclude with burial at Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Jeane's memory to the Alzheimer's Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472
