SPRINGFIELD – Dorothy E. (LeBlanc) McCarthy, 94, of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, passed away on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield, three months shy of her 95th birthday, surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Brookline, Massachusetts on October 14, 1917, a beloved daughter of the late Henry and Susan (McInerney) LeBlanc and moved to Springfield around 1947. She was a former member of the Springfield Golden Age Club and a longtime communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Springfield. She was a wonderful homemaker who showered her family with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Jerome F. McCarthy, who passed away on February 12, 1991. She leaves: her loving children, Gerald P. McCarthy of Wareham, MA, Joan M. Alvezi and her husband, Walter, of Sandwich, MA, Robert D. McCarthy of Springfield with whom she lived and Maureen A. McCarthy of Longmeadow; her 11 cherished grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother and sisters, Henry LeBlanc, Jr., Natalie McDonough and Diane Smith. Her funeral will be held on Monday morning, July 23, 2012 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 9:30 a.m.) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104. Her burial will follow the Mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 421 Tinkham Road, Springfield, MA 01128. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday morning, July 23, 2012 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. before the Mass. Her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to the Sacred Heart Church Renovation Fund, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
