NATICK - Maureen Ellen Cassidy, 65, who spent much of her adult life as an executive in the Boston restaurant and food services industry, died on Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at the Mary Ann Morse Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Hospital.
The cause of Ms. Cassidy’s death was pulmonary fibrosis.
Ms. Cassidy was the longtime banquet manager at Anthony’s Pier 4 and had her office on the upstairs deck of the SS Peter Stuyvesant, a glittering banquet facility owned by the restaurant and docked beside it. The Stuyvesant foundered in the Great Blizzard of 1978.
Leaving Pier 4, Ms. Cassidy became one of the organizers of the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s 100th anniversary events.
From there, she became the longtime general manager of The Downtown Club, the prestigious dining room atop the State Street Bank at 225 Franklin Street. Ms. Cassidy remained in that job until the bank moved its headquarters, at which time she retired.
Ms. Cassidy was born on Aug. 28, 1946, in Manhattan and raised primarily in Natick. She lived most of her adult life in Boston.
Her parents were Eugene C. and Helen (Almond) Cassidy, both of whom are deceased. She attended Catholic elementary schools on Long Island, N.Y., in Burlington, Vt, at St. Patrick’s School in Natick, and was a graduate of Marian High School in Framingham.
She attended Trinity College, a Catholic women’s college, in Burlington, Vt.
Ms. Cassidy is survived by a daughter, Patricia Mullen, the coordinator of special education at Medfield High School and Ms. Mullen’s husband, Don Weloth, Jr.; and a grandson, Matthew Mullen-Boland, a high school student. Ms. Cassidy also has a niece, Maggie Cassidy, of Vermont, a nephew, to whom she was godmother, Charles Cassidy, of Framingham, a brother, Eugene H. Cassidy of Framingham, and his wife Nancy.
She was the godmother of Nancy (Wilcox) Trent of Oregon.
Ms. Cassidy had a lifelong love of animals and adopted many stray cats during her lifetime. Her family asks that instead of flowers, mourners make a donation to Stray Pets in Need from where she adopted her most recent pet. The address is SPIN Shelter Fund, P.O. Visiting hours for Ms. Cassidy will be at the John Everett and Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street on Natick Common on Friday evening, July 20, from 5 to 8.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church, 44 East Central Street, Natick, Saturday morning at 10. Burial will be private.
The family will invite mourners to celebrate and commemorate Maureen’s life after the Mass. Mourners are asked to leave themselves some extra time if they are able to attend Mass. There is parking behind the church.
