HIGGINS- Of Chelsea, suddenly, May 10th, Raymond G. Devoted husband of Helen M. (Hayes) Higgins. Beloved father of Maureen Nagle and her husband Ralph of Milton. Dear and loving brother of Marion Caldwell and Alfred Higgins both of Florida, Helen LeGrow of Woburn, Dorothy DiPesa of Revere, Dr. Louis Higgins of Reading and the late George and Ruth Higgins. Cherished grandfather of Colleen Nagle of San Francisco, CA, Michael Nagle of Missouri and Brian and Kristin Nagle both of Milton. Also lovingly survived by his great granddaughters Madeline and Annabella Nagle both of Missouri as well as many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are lindly invited to attend a Funeral from the Smith Funeral Home, 125 Washington Avenue, CHELSEA on Friday morning, May 14th at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Michael the Archangel Chapel on the Campus of the Chelsea Soldiers Home, 91 Crest Avenue, CHELSEA at 10 o'clock. Visiting Hours in the Smith Funeral Home on Thursday from 4-8 PM. Services will conclude with interment at St. Mary's Cemetery, Lynn.Born in Lynn, Raymond spent most of his life in Chelsea. As a young man, he was employed as assistant manger of the J.J. Newberry store on Broadway. Shorty after beginning work for General Electric's Lynn River Works in the Airplane Division, he was drafted into the United States Army during World War II. Upon his return from active duty, Ray returned to General Electric where he rose through the positions to supervisor, auditor and administrator of the River Works Airplane Engine Plant. Though employed for over 40 years mainly at the Lynn operation, he spent 8 years at GE's plant in Cincinnati, Ohio heading up quality control before returning to Lynn where he retired on March 30, 1979. An army veteran of World War II, for many years was a member of the American Legion Post on Shurtleff Street as well as the VFW.
