Obituary

Floye Perry McGowan, 97, of Ocilla, died July 17, 2012, at Shiloh Assisted Living in Ocilla.

Graveside services will be held 11 A.M. Friday, July 20, 2012 at the Dublin Memorial Gardens in Dublin, Georgia, with Rev. Darren Talley officiating. The family will receive friends at Paulk Funeral Home in Ocilla on Thursday evening 6 until 8 P.M. The family will also receive friends at the cemetery 30 minutes before the service Friday morning.

Mrs. McGowan was born January 19, 1915 in Laurens County, Georgia, to the late Zeddie Harrison Perry and Myrtle Christian Perry. She was a member of Jefferson Street Baptist Church in Dublin for 78 years. She graduated from Dublin High School in 1933. Mrs. McGowan was an avid fisherman and seamstress. She was a gardener, enjoying working with orchids, African violets, and irises. She was a former employee of the Veterans Administration and Pearson & Orr Grocery. During WW II she worked at the bomb plant. Some of her joys were caring for her grandchildren, baking for family & friends and square dancing.

Mrs. McGowan is survived by her son, John (Eleanor) McGowan of Fitzgerald; five grandchildren; Pan McNatt, Kim and Bill Prather; J.F. “Joey” III & Hollie McGowan; John Perry & Jaki McGowan; and Shane McGowan; 12 Great Grandchildren and four Great Great Grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Glenda McGowan Hasty of Dublin; Sister-in-law, Jane Perry of Dublin, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Felton McGowan in 1994, her son, Joseph Felton McGowan, Jr., a grandson, Sean P. McGowan, and two brothers.
