Obituary

John Buckla died Friday. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Straka Buckla.

He was born Jan. 10, 1923, in Olyphant, son of the late John and Mary Buckla. He was a resident of Endicott, N.Y., for many years. He was a long-time employee of IBM, Owego and Endicott, N.Y., and a member of SS. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, Endicott, N.Y., for many years. He was a World War II veteran with service on Omaha Beach on D-Day. John and his wife were active members of the Navy LCI National Association, attending reunions with shipmates and their families.

He passed away at New York State Veterans Home, Batavia, N.Y., where he received loving and extraordinarily respectful care for the last 11 months.

He is survived by two sons, John D. Buckla and wife, Lynn Howard Buckla, Camillus, N.Y.; and Robert J. Buckla, Chicago; two grandchildren, Christine Buckla Blair and husband, David, Stillwater, N.Y., and Adrienne Buckla, Philadelphia; one great-grandchild, Adelyn Blair; twin brother, "Charlie" Buckla of Jermyn; four sisters, Veronica Koziar of Olyphant; Irene Prokipchak of Draper, Utah; Olga Buckla of Virginia Beach, Va.; and Julia Hansis of Aliquippa; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Stafursky and Helen Castelgrande.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Andrew Buckla.

Funeral services will be Saturday from the Michael P. Glinsky Funeral Home, 129 Grant St., Olyphant, with services at 1:30 p.m. in All Saints Orthodox Church, Olyphant. Interment at All Saints Orthodox Cemetery, Peckville.

Family and friends may attend visitation on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
