EAST LONGMEADOW – Laura M. (Duval) Conway, 84, of East Longmeadow and a longtime resident of the East Springfield section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Monday, July 16, 2012. She passed into Eternal Life at her residence at Bluebird Estates in East Longmeadow surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Winchendon, MA on April 10, 1928, a beloved daughter of the late Wilfred and Exilda (LeBlanc) Duval. She was a graduate of Clinton High School in Clinton, MA, where she was raised. She later moved to Springfield in 1947 and was a 1950 graduate of the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Springfield. She was employed as a registered nurse for over 50 years and had worked at Mercy Hospital for 35 years, retiring in 2003. She was a communicant of Mary, Mother of Hope Church in East Springfield and was a member of the Women’s Club of the church. She was also a member of the East Springfield Golden Agers, the Mercy Hospital Alumni and the Belles of the Ball Bowling League in Springfield for over 30 years. She loved listening to Irish music and would often miss lunch listening to the Sullivan’s Saturday Irish Music program. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, her friends, and her kitties, Kitty, Fluffy and Titi. She leaves her beloved husband and best friend, retired Springfield Police Officer Lawrence E. “Larry” Conway. They were married on September 12, 1953 in St. Michael’s Cathedral in Springfield and celebrated over 58 years of happiness together. She also leaves: her devoted sons, Kevin J. Conway and his wife, Theresa, of Wilbraham and Thomas F. Conway of Springfield; her cherished grandchildren, Ryan Conway and his wife, Jolette, and Taylor Conway; and her cherished great granddaughter, Rilynn. Her funeral will be held on Thursday morning, July 19, 2012, beginning at the St. Pierre - Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 10 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. in Mary, Mother of Hope Church, 840 Page Boulevard, Springfield MA 01104. Her Committal Service will follow the Mass at 1 p.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to Mercy Hospice, 1236 Main Street, Suite 303, Holyoke, MA 01040 or to the Thomas J. O’Connor Foundation, 627 Cottage Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
