Abington – Lorraine A. (Waters) Mattson 78, a lifelong resident of Abington, died Thursday July 12, surrounded by her friends and family, after a period of failing health. She was the wife of the late Robert H. Mattson.
Born in Beverly and raised in Abington, she was the daughter of the late Robert M. and Annie (Todd) Water and a graduate of Abington High, Class of 1951.
For many years she had worked for the Rockland Trust Company, and had also worked as a Police Matron for the Whitman Police Department.
Lorraine enjoyed camping, bird watching, and doing puzzles, but she especially enjoyed the time spent with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Joyce Gunter and her husband Donald of Abington, Diane Collum and her husband Bobby of Wareham, and Robert W. Mattson and his wife Heather of Abington, her grandchildren Donald Jr. and Shannon Gunter, Elisa Walsh, Sean and Tamsin Collum, Olivia, Madeline and Robert W. Mattson Jr. and Ashley, Patrick, Sean, James, Nicholas, Heather and Adam Dittman, her great-grandchildren Makayla, Michael and Joseph Walsh. She is also survived by a close family friend Sandra Waters-Redgate, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of Bruce A. and Robert F. Waters of Florida.
Family and friends are invited to attend her memorial service to be held Sunday July 22 from 7-9 PM at the Whitman VFW lower lounge.
