Clifford Edward “Speck” Chambers, 76, of Fitzgerald, died July 9, 2012 at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday, July 12, 2012, at Old Smyrna Cemetery, Toombs County, with the Rev Greg Carroll and the Rev. Jeff Parmer officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-9 Wednesday evening.
Mr. Chambers was born October 23, 1935 in Uvalda, Georgia to the late Hiram Morgan and Lucille Chambers. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a retired Taxi cab driver for Liles Cab Company and was a former employee of Fitzgerald Cotton Mills. He had lived in Fitzgerald for over 50 years. Mr. Chambers enjoyed fishing and loved boiling peanuts for friends and family.
Mr. Chambers is survived by his wife: Melba Peacock Chambers of Fitzgerald; children: Clifford Chambers, Jr. of Fitzgerald, Ray Beard of Fitzgerald, Lisa and Greg Carroll of Hayesville N.C., and Gene Beard of Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Abbie Chambers, Ray Beard Jr., Janell Beard, Laura & Wendell Farmer, Will & Shannon Carroll, and Jake & Miriam Carroll; Six Great Grandchildren and four nephews and one niece. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers and one sister.
