Walter J. ‘Mac’ Markiewicz, 95, passed away Sunday, July 8, 2012 in Harington Memorial Hospital in Southbridge.
He leaves his wife of 66 years; Gladys S. (Lebudzinski) Markiewicz, 2 brothers, Joseph Markiewicz in Ohio, and Frank Markiewicz of Webster, 2 sisters; Theresa wife of Raymond Raiczyk of Port Richey, Fla., and Sr. Mary Adelia of the Felician Sisters in Enfield, Ct., many nieces and nephews.
Walter was born in Webster one of 12 children to Joseph and Delia (Kulczak) Markiewicz and lived here all his life.
He was predeceased by brothers; John, Henry, Chester, Steve, Bernard and Willie and sister Mary Brisson.
Walter served in the U.S. Army during WWII, and saw action in the Pacific. He earned a Purple Heart and Bronze Star during that time in Saipan.
He worked at the former Packard Mills and later at the former Risom Mfg. Co. and retired many years ago.
He was a member of the P.A.V., enjoyed fishing, boating and bowling, and loved his grand nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be Private at St. Joseph’s Basilica and burial with Military Honors provided by the Webster-Dudley Veterans’ Council will be in St. Joseph Garden of Peace Cemetery.
There are no calling hours.
