New Port Richey, Florida - Norman E. Davies, 83, of New Port Richey, formerly of Salem, Massachusetts, husband of Katherine G. “Kay” (Konos) Davies, died on December 5, 2003 in the James A. Haley Veterans Nursing Home in Tampa, Florida following a long illness.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Norman E. Sr. and Theresa (Riley) Davies.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed for over 30 years as a letter carrier for the U. S. Postal Service.
A Marine Corp veteran of WWII, he served with the 1st Marine Division in Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Philippines and attained the rank of Corporal. He was the recipient of several medals including two purple hearts and five bronze stars for heroism against an armed enemy. He was a member of the Chester Mckay, VFW Post #7987 in New Port Richey.
Mr. Davies served on the Salem City Council from 1950 to 1957 and was Council President in 1952.
Besides his wife, with whom he shared 35 years of marriage, he is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Elizabeth and Robert Cook of Beverly, Priscilla Hobbs of Salem, one son and daughter-in-law, William and Rosalie Hobbs of Swampscott, 7 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Jeffrey D. Hobbs and brother of the late Ralph Davies and Theresa Olsen.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 11, 2004 at 9 am at the Immaculate Conception Church, Hawthorne Blvd., Salem. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Committal services to follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Alzheimer's Association, 36 Cameron Ave., Cambridge, MA 02140-1102.
