Josephine Bono, age 88, died Wednesday May 5, 2004 at the Arnold House in Stoneham after a lengthy illness. Born in Revere, MA she was the daughter of the late Michelina (Mercurio) & Austin J. Bono. JoJo as she was known graduated from Revere High School.
Jo or JoJo was a dedicated career women who worked as a buyer in the family business, Fitwel Dress Co. 35 Kneeland St. Boston, still in operation today in Avon, MA. Jo´s father Austin was the founder of Lady in Waiting Fashions. Jo along with her sister Mary built Lady in Waiting Fashions into a leading maker of Maternity clothes that are still sold today in major retail stores. Jo´s professional knowledge of women´s fashions gave her a unique talent of being able to fit any women perfectly.
Jo was also very health conscious. She would always try to eat right which would include fruits and salads. She enjoyed exercising at the local health club and enjoyed walking everywhere. Religion and spirituality were also a major part of Jo´s lifestyle. She and her father attended church regularly.
Josephine was survived by her nieces Andrea Bono and Marilyn Bono both of California, Kathryn Nadeau of Florida. Nephews A. John Bono of Florida, Peter F. Bono of Maine, Richard P. Bono of Dorchester, MA, Richard J. Bono of New Hampshire, David P. Bono of California and the late Peter A. Bono Jr. Josephine was the sister of the late Mary Bono, Annette Bono, John Bono, Louie Bono, Ernie Bono and Peter Bono.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 8th at 10:30 AM in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., MEDFORD. Visiting hours 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
