Obituary

MATTAPOISETT — Elsie W. McAuley, 94, Kerwin Ave., Mattapoisett, died peacefully at home on June 28, 2012. She was born July 7, 1917, the sweet, beloved wife of 46 years, of the late Firth M. McAuley. She lived on Plain St., Easthampton until 10 years ago, then with her daughter and family in Mattapoisett.

Originally from Champlain St., Indian Orchard, on Lake Lorraine in Springfield, daughter of the late Arthur C. Winter and Louise M. Feistel; sister of the late Arthur C. Winter Jr., New Jersey, she graduated from Classical High, Springfield, worked as a statistician for New England Telephone. She sang in the Springfield Choir and was a member of the Mother's Club and Women's Club of East Hampton.

She loved animals, gardening, swimming, flying, traveling, scrabble tournaments, reading, cross-word puzzles, oil painting and copper engraving. She adored being with her family, especially her grandsons.

She had one son, the late Robert F. McAuley, and is survived by her daughter, Joan E. Dill, her husband Russell E. Dill, grandson Andrew N. Dill, all of Mattapoisett, MA; grandson Arthur D. Dill, wife Carrie, four great-grandchildren, Rochester MA; nephew Mark Winter, wife Loryl, Omaha, NE; great-nephew, wife and three great, great nieces/nephews, Park City, UT.

There will be no services at Elsie's request. A celebration of her life will take place sometime in the near future.
