Obituary

METHUEN – James R. Cusack, 70, of Methuen, and retired Lawrence Fire Fighter died Monday July 2, 2012 at Beth Israel Hospital after a sudden illness.

Born and educated in Lawrence, he was the son of Thomas and Catherine (Casey) Cusack and was a graduate of Lawrence High School with the Class of 1960. For more than 30 years James was a fire fighter with the City of Lawrence, appointed as a reserve on February 27, 1972 and promoted to permanent fire fighter on February 25, 1973 and was assigned to Engine 7 Unit 3. His last working shift was on February 28, 2003 officially retiring from the department. He was actively involved with the Merrimack Valley Nutrition Program “Meals on Wheels”, was a member of the Fire Fighters Local 146, the Lawrence Fire Fighters Relief Association and the Merrimack Valley YMCA. James enjoyed taking walks and all local high school sports.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Maureen “Jane” (Moriarty) Cusack of Methuen, MA.
Two sons; Timothy P. Cusack and his wife Marie of Methuen, MA and Sean M. Cusack of Haverhill, MA.
Two brothers; Eugene Cusack and his wife Margarita of Methuen, MA and Thomas Cusack of Lawrence, MA.
Grandchildren, Aidan, Liam and Emma all of Methuen, MA.
Sister-in-law Margaret Cusack and brothers-in-law Kevin Moriarty and his wife Regina, Arthur and Sean Moriarty both of Maine. James also leaves
Theresa McLaughlin and his extended and loving family in Ireland and England as well as several nieces and nephews
James was pre-deceased by a sister Margaret Maddox and her husband Melvin, a brother Bryan Cusack and a beloved nephew Padraic Cusack.

ARRANGEMENTS: In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Lawrence Fire Fighters Memorial Scholarship c/o the Lawrence Fire Department or to the Merrimack Valley YMCA 38 Lawrence St. Lawrence, MA. Visiting hours for family and friends will be Friday from 4:00p.m. – 8:00p.m. at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, Inc., 233 Lawrence Street Methuen, MA 01844. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 9:00a.m. in St. Lucy’s Church also in Methuen. Burial will take place at a later date at the families’ convenience.
