John Benko, 88 of Medford, died Tuesday after a brief illness in the Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Medford, MA.
Born in Lawrence, he lived in Medford for the past 60 years and was formerly of Chelsea. John was the son of the late Katie (Baranowska) and Paul Benko. He was a Welder at GE Aircraft in Lynn for many years and retired in 1987. John served during World War II in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1947. He also was an avid model airplane hobbyist.
Beloved husband of Rita (Vendola). Devoted father of Susan Benko of Stoneham, Paula Bernaiche and her husband Bob of Medford. Brother of the late Walter and Michael Benko.
Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., MEDFORD Friday at 11 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High St., Medford, at 12 noon. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
