Henry J. Belanger, 91, of Lawrence, died peacefully Monday at Lawrence General Hospital in Lawrence after a period of failing health.
Henry, son of the late Louis J. and Alice M. (Cartier) Belanger, was born in Lawrence on March 17, 1921 and lived here all of his life. Henry graduated from Lawrence High School and went on to proudly serve our country in the United States Navy during World War II. Prior to his retirement, Henry worked as a carpenter and was a member of the Local #111 of Greater Lawrence.
Henry was an active communicant of St. Augustine’s Church and prior to its closing, was actively involved with Sacred Heart Church of South Lawrence, was the vice president of the Third Order of Mary and was a member of their Parish Council. His family remembers him as the consummate grandfather.
Henry will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 66 years, Hazel (Collins) Belanger; his children, Patricia Jarrell, Linda Wasylak and her husband Stephen and Robert Belanger and his wife Pam; one brother, Albert Belanger; 5 grandchildren, Debra, Philip, Rachael, Robin and Victoria; 2 great grandchildren, Harold and Daniel and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by one son, John Belanger and one sister, Irene Normand.
Family and friends are planning to honor and celebrate Henry’s life by gathering for his Funeral Mass in St. Augustine’s Church, 43 Essex St., Andover on Friday, July 6, 2012 at 9:30 AM. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Lowell. Friends will be warmly received in the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St., Methuen on Thursday, July 5, 2012 from 4-8 PM.
